About HOPE

Mission

Our four core missions – rescuing, re-homing, sterilization and increasing the public awareness of pet ownership and responsibilities. An enormous amount of love and care is given to ensure that the furkids are happy and healthy. Apart from food and water, like any pet kept in your home, the animals in H.O.P.E. Receive an adequate amount of medical care. All the furkids in H.O.P.E. Are sterilized and given regular vaccinations.

Vision

To reduce suffering in the world and advocate humane behavior through education and provision of rescue, rehabilitation, and shelter to abandoned, neglected, and abused furkids.

Social problems addressed by furkids cruelty intervention.

Our society has determined that humane behavior is a worthy goal in and of itself. We serve our community by taking action in instances of furkid cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We have rescued and rehabilitated furkids who have been starved to emaciation, beaten, confined in their own waste, shot, and struck by cars. Reducing the incidence of cruelty and healing the wounds of cruelty is our primary concern.

Our outreach program encourages community members, including youths in local schools, to get involved in acts of kindness and compassion. Our intent is to empower individuals to stand up for humane treatment of furkids. We impact the stray furkids population problem through spay/neuter programs and education. We serve people who need assistance with their own rescue efforts. We provide furkids companions by moving furkids from unwanted circumstances to areas where they are wanted and cherished.

Scope Of Our Organization

  • Persatuan Perlindungan dan Peliharaan Haiwan Terbiar Skudai (Homeless & Orphan Pets Exist - H.O.P.E.) is a non profit and non-governmental organization which is currently located at Pekan Nanas, Johor.
  • H.O.P.E. was established in April 2008 and was officially registered with the Registry of Societies of Malaysia on August 2009.
  • H.O.P.E. is a 100% NO KILL animal shelter for all breeds of dogs and cats. This means we do not euthanize healthy furkids to control population. We advocate humane spay/neuter (S/N) programs for population control and to reduce cruelty that arises from over population and stray furkids. We provide educational materials as well as S/N services. We S/N all adult furkids in our care. It is our policy to ensure that all puppies and kittens adopted must be returned to us for spaying or neutering when they reach the appropriate age.
  • Rehabilitation service includes emergency medical care (for example, from abuse injury, car strike, cancer), medicine for chronic conditions (like parasites and endemic dog disease), quality food and nutritional supplement to rebuild health and overcome starvation syndrome.
  • When our furkids are fully recovered, healthy, and free of behavioral problems, we put them into our adoption network and help them to join new families. We supplement this effort through an affiliate network of foster homes. Adopters are required to sign a humane treatment agreement. We take back dogs if adopters don't uphold the agreement.
  • We provide permanent sanctuary to furkids which are unadoptable due to severity of trauma.
  • We provide consultation and a support network to anyone needing assistance with rescue/rehab work.
  • We are currently sheltering over 2000 homeless furkids.
  • We need a total of 80 bags of 15kg dog food NOW to feed our doggies per day, a total of 2400 bags of 15kg dog food/month!
  • We have to spend over RM140k per month for the expense of food itself and also approximately RM20k – RM30k on medical bills.

The Founder

AUNTY JIA JIA (CHONG SIEW CHIN) Auntie Jia-Jia, the founder of the non-profit organization Persatuan Perlindungan dan Peliharaan Haiwan Terbiar Skudai - Homeless & Orphan Pets Exist (H.O.P.E.). She began to rescue stray animals in 2007. From early beginnings of 120 furkids, H.O.P.E. is now home to over 2000 furkids. She advocates rehoming of the canines and felines she takes in and also promotes the spaying and neutering of dogs in her community.
